The IT and auto manufacturing industries are converging, meaning auto OEMs can no longer limit themselves as manufacturers of ‘wheels and steel’ only.
In a recent C-level discussion amongst telematics execs from Ford, General Motors and Kia, one remark highlighted the shift in auto mobility above all others – “I’ve learnt more IT acronyms in the last 6 months, than I have in the last 10 years”.
What this means for the future competencies and products of OEMs is very exciting, yet very unclear.
