Floow expands internationally, hires insurance expert

Dominant British telematics provider, The Floow, has announced that it’s beginning a major international push, expanding first into Switzerland and then beyond, with the help of its newly appointed insurance expert, Dario Aliotta, who’s coming aboard to handle international business strategy across West and Central Europe.

Floow expanded into Italy earlier this year with another hire, taking on Elisabetta Pizzini to handle the local business there. With her handling that part of the continent, Aliotta will be handling countries like Switzerland, Germany and Austria, with plans for him to liaise with local insurers, roadside assistance firms and fleet management companies, to help expand the usage of Floow’s telematics products to the local enterprises.

Aldo Monteforte, chief executive officer and co-founder of The Floow, said: “We are delighted to welcome Dario to the team as we continue to grow the company overseas.

“We are currently in contact with a number of European insurers who are interested in our work, after seeing the results of that a telematics offering has had for the various international insurers that we work with. Dario’s appointment now allows us to further develop our reach across Europe.”

Aliotta has over 27 years experience working in the insurance and “reinsurance” business, with much of that time spent heading client management teams and liaising with high profile business customers, so Floow should have no worries about his ability to close a deal or manage an ongoing client relationship.

Moving forward, Aliotta will be based out of Winterhur Switzerland, to put him in the prime position to open up Floow’s business to Swiss locals. However, that won’t mean he’ll be sitting idle, as he has plenty more territories to manage, so will need to put himself out there.

Speaking about his hiring, Aliotta said: “I admire the work of the Floow, and recognise the benefits that telematics solutions can offer to insurers and their customer base.

“I am very pleased to be working with the team to make more companies across Europe aware of the impact that greater driver awareness can have from a road safety perspective, as well as an economic perspective.”

About Floow

Floow is a telematics business that’s built around the idea of expanding the tracking business model from one that was transaction focused, to more of a software as a service system, with an ongoing relationship with businesses allowing Floow to improve its systems over time whilst staying in touch with what customers want from the systems.

Like many other insurers, Floow offers telematics platforms that are designed to reduce insurance fraud and premiums for users, as well as cutting back on fuel usage and vehicle wear. They can even make drivers safer too, as most people tend to pay more attention to their driving when they know they’re being tracked.

Floow has been going through a period of unprecedented growth lately, having recently announced a partnership with AIG to develop the XLNTdriver app, which offers telematics to users without the need for external hardware. Taking advantage of the accelerometer and GPS built in to the customer’s smartphone, it sends through enough data to rate their driving, letting insurers adjust premiums and fleet managers offer extra training if needed.
